Antique 18th Century Georgian Set Of Four Dining Chairs In the Manner Of Daniel Marot - Recovered Upholstery

£120.00

Set of four carved walnut dining chairs, in the manner of Daniel Marot, 18th century.

Description

  • Carved walnut frames exhibiting the French-Baroque and Dutch influences associated with Daniel Marot: chip-carved top rails, pierced C-shaped splats, and arched seat rails.

  • Scrolled, chip-carved forelegs terminating in gadrooned feet.

  • Newly recovered in luxury patterned linen by Zimmer + Rohde — rich red and deep green palette, hand-tailored to each seat.

Condition

  • Substantial historic and later repairs throughout, most notably on the backrests.

  • Chips and small losses to the frames in several areas across most chairs; some original moldings are missing.

  • Evidence of historic woodworm activity; no active infestation noted at inspection.

  • Structurally reasonably sound for use in current condition — chairs are fairly sturdy and should be serviceable as presented. Further conservation or sympathetic restoration would improve longevity and appearance.

Dimensions

  • Height: 113 cm

  • Width: 56 cm

  • Depth: 44 cm

Notes

  • These chairs carry strong period character and decorative appeal despite their losses and repairs. They are well suited for someone seeking authentic 18th‑century style.
